YouTube
Watch videos with YouTube captions. Choose YouTube Captions in the subtitle menu after playback starts. Home and Studio offer creator captions and automatic captions in the video's original language. These captions are unavailable for live broadcasts and downloads. Automatic translations are not included.
Add channels and playlists from the app. Admins can add a YouTube link or channel handle from Channels > YouTube, including on Apple TV. Choose how many recent videos to include and whether Shorts appear in Search and Recently Added.
Live broadcasts play again. Fixed broadcasts that failed to start, along with missing sound and sound that played ahead of the picture.
Picture and sound
Hear dialogue with fewer volume changes. Turn on Reduce Loud Sounds before playback to hear speech more clearly and soften loud effects. The app remembers your choice on each device. Stereo playback also has less distortion and fuller bass. Reduce Loud Sounds does not apply to offline downloads.
Older shows and DVD copies keep the correct picture shape. Fixed stretched pictures in Default playback, downloads, and browser playback.
More videos start and play smoothly. Fixed failures and stutters in some movie and episode files. Also fixed playback getting stuck loading when another stream or download starts at the same time.
Resuming a video gives immediate feedback. The controls hide when you press Play, so you can see when the video is loading.
Photo Channels
Videos play smoothly while your music continues. Consecutive videos no longer leave the picture frozen. If music is playing in the mini player, Photo Channel videos play silently while your music continues.
Browsing and connections
Recently Added fits smaller iPhones. Movie, show, and music grids now fit the screen without cutting off the outside tiles.
Home has a simpler Search screen. Search shows your library without the Studio-only Files option. Use Browse to find individual files.
Saved servers keep connecting after certificate changes. You no longer need to remove and add a saved server to get past this connection error.
Studio
Add media from SFTP folders. Studio can connect to remote storage through SFTP. Browse its folders and add movies, shows, and other media to your library.
Audio channel options explain when they are available. Choosing the left or right audio channel requires Studio and Default: Adaptive Bitrate playback. The controls explain when a choice is unavailable.
