ShowShark Release Notes v2026.09.21

ShowShark Release Notes v2026.09.21

Overview

  • YouTube is easier to browse and organize. Browse video grids, build your own collections, and choose where Shorts appear.
  • Playlists follow your order. Move items into the order you want, and find your latest Favorites at the top of each section.
  • Studio edition connects to more of your library. Add Dropbox and WebDAV folders alongside S3 locations.
  • Blackmagic RAW and RED camera files now play in Studio. Browse clips with thumbnails, view camera details, and watch in Default mode.
  • Everyday playback works better. Subtitles are easier to choose, albums play in the right order, and selecting a video thumbnail starts with the picture visible.

YouTube

  • Channels, playlists, and collections now show video grids. Each tile shows the title, length or LIVE label, and your watch progress. Videos and Shorts appear together with consistent tile sizes. Channels and playlists show the newest videos first; collections keep the order you choose.
  • Create your own YouTube collections. Admins can paste video links, name a collection, reorder its videos, and add or remove entries from the Server or client app. An Add to Collection action is also available on a video's detail screen. Collections appear in search and Recently Added, and can supply a video channel that follows their chosen order.
  • Choose where Shorts appear. Each subscription has a setting to include Shorts in search and Recently Added. Video channels have a separate Include Shorts setting. Shorts remain available on the subscription's own screen.
  • Read complete channel descriptions. Open Read full description to see all the text in a scrollable window. On Apple TV, the description is reachable with the remote; on other devices, you can select and copy the text.

Playlists & Favorites

  • Reorder a playlist after adding items. Drag items into place, or use Move to Top, Move Up, and Move Down. Apple TV offers the same move actions through the item's menu. The Server saves your order for later visits. If an update fails, the app offers a retry and keeps the last confirmed contents visible.
  • Favorites show recent additions first. Movies, shows, episodes, music, and other favorites stay grouped by type, with the newest additions at the top of each section.

Video Playback & Subtitles

  • Videos without an audio track now play. These files can start, resume, and finish normally, including silent camera clips.
  • Original playback handles more movie files. Fixed startup failures in some files whose audio begins slightly after the picture. Also fixed failures near the end of movies with a very short final section.
  • Starting from a thumbnail shows the video correctly. Choosing an image from the Thumbnails screen now opens playback at that point. It no longer leaves the setup screen visible while audio plays, and it keeps your selected playback mode.
  • Subtitle choices stay visible and are easier to read. Fixed missing embedded subtitle choices during playback. Tracks now use full language names, with your device's language first, followed by English and the other languages. Subtitles built into the video and files beside it appear above provider results. Tracks with the same language remain distinguishable, and forced subtitles are labeled.

Music

  • Albums play in the right track order. Missing disc numbers no longer move some songs ahead of the others. The same order is used for the album list, playback, and downloaded albums.
  • Opening different music replaces the song already playing. Choosing another song, album, or artist while the mini player is active now starts the new selection. The player no longer shows new artwork while continuing the old song.
  • The music player fits wide screens better. Track details and controls stay in a centered column on iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. The Apple TV play and pause button also stays centered when playing a single file.
  • More AIFF files are recognized as music. Files ending in .aif or .aifc, including Logic Pro exports, now appear as audio in Browse and join the music library after a scan.

Studio Camera Files & Audio Controls

  • Play Blackmagic RAW and RED camera files. Studio adds playback, thumbnails, preview images for seeking, and available camera details for .braw and .r3d clips. Use Default mode in the ShowShark client app. These formats do not play in Original mode, a web browser, or on Apple Watch. RED recordings split across several files appear as one clip.
  • RED clips can play directly from network and cloud storage. Studio reads the parts needed for file details, thumbnails, playback, and seeking without downloading the whole clip first. Blackmagic RAW files stored remotely still need to download to the Server first. Other files' thumbnails can continue loading during that preparation.
  • Choose which side of a video's stereo sound you hear. Studio adds Audio Channels controls for Left Only, Right Only, Mono Mix, and Swap Left and Right. Left Only and Right Only play the selected side through both ears. These controls work with Default playback, downloaded videos, and Original playback using Direct File on the device. Each new video starts in Stereo, and the controls explain when a playback method cannot apply the choice.

Server & Library Locations

  • ShowShark Server now has Home and Studio apps. Home covers movies, shows, music, and photos. Studio also includes professional formats, direct cloud storage connections, advanced file search, and extended playback checks.
  • Dropbox and WebDAV join the library locations in Studio. Connect an account or server, browse its folders, and choose what to add. Videos appear in your library with file details, thumbnails, and playback. Dropbox also offers a team folder choice when the account provides one.
  • Thumbnails from network libraries load faster. Loading file details, browse thumbnails, and preview images for seeking now uses less data from SMB, S3, and Dropbox locations. This reduces repeated transfers when browsing large files.
  • The Server's Channels tab is organized by type. Video, music, photos, YouTube, podcasts, radio, cameras, and IPTV each open on their own screen, with a count and relevant add actions. Empty sections explain how to get started. Internet sources remain available even before you import a media library.

App Usability & Reliability

  • More rows respond when you tap beside the text. Album and track rows, subtitle choices, playlist membership, and several settings now have larger tap areas.
  • Fixed a Mac crash when a dialog closes. ShowShark could quit while dismissing an alert or dialog, including during a reconnect after returning to the app. The fix covers the client, Home, Studio, and Remote apps.
